To really enjoy the show you should accept its sheer nonsense world where natural laws no longer exert their power and everything is possible.

German TV is now showing "Oggy" at the children's hour, which to me is quite strange as I think the often cruel, violent as well as anarchistic and also surrealistic humour is not exactly child-conform. To me "Oggy" is the best thing that happened since "Tom and Jerry" (the old ones). Five volumes, each containing twelve episodes each came out on DVD in 2003 (in English).
The show is packed with a helter-skelter of gags around these five likable characters who, like Tom and Jerry, are given real depth. Plots have Oggy changed into a cockroach, sent into the internet, a new Ice Age occurs when a fridge door is left open and ends when it is casually shut again, a super-bouncy material ends up bouncing their house to the Moon, a new insecticide instead of killing cockroaches makes endless copies of them, and so on. Skates are trod on and Oggy falls down hundreds of stairs, bazooka missiles are fired, huge weights are dropped and dynamite explodes.

In a house with endless rooms, corridors and staircases which go on and on, chaos abounds in full speed chase scenes as Oggy rushes after the cockroaches. Thanks to three positively satanic cockroaches, life is anything but simple for Oggy and his red-neck cousin Jack. Constantine Wolf critic, HungaryĪnyone who does not like this show must have the sense of humour of a cockroach. Without these the viewer wont understand the incredible ideas, the grotesque art of the situations. It is maybe paradox, but the viewer of this simple-like show must have erudition in patterns of traditional cartoons and films. Knowing them gives a basement to build on and enjoy the new ideas and the absurd covers of old patterns. A nice parallelism: you wont understand or enjoy the modern arts without knowing the classics. The viewer shall grown up on Tommy and Jerry and old chase-cartoons, and so feels Oggy a modern answer on them. This is simply to explain: this cartoon needs lot of so-called previous studies.

The Oggy series are maybe disliked by lot of cartoon viewers, and disinterested for kids. Incredible gags and burlesque-situations make this cartoon classic of its age. Its visual ideas and sound effects affect absurd and may grotesque, but they run on the old tracks of Tommy and Jerry or such other cult. Yes, Oggy and the cockroaches is actionful as well, but a good and up-to-date remake of the traditional cat-mouse chase. Oggy and the Cockroaches - Light in the night Today, when jap and other fighting cartoons took down the standard (that's level was originally set up by legendary classics) under the cellar this one gives hope and good amusement even over kid age. This is a must watch show for everyone of any age.I love it more then once I loved Tom and Jerry in my childhood. After watching one season in dubbed version, I bought the DVD and watched the rest.Even without voice my experience was unaffected and the laughter was never reduced. So all the laughter is doubled after Complete Audio-Visual experience as the dialogs are superb and so are the renames like Joey is Lambu(tall),Dee Dee is Mote (fat and hungry),Marky is chote (small) and Jack is Fauji (soldier). In Indian version the mimicry of famous Bollywood star voice like Shahrukh Khan,Sunny Deol,Amreesh Puri,Sunil Shetty,Akshay Kumar,Paresh Rawal,Gulshan Grower and many more is used. But the main reason the show captured the mass was dubbing,yes this show is being aired as dubbed version in India Germany and UK. I have heard a lot about this show but never saw.One day I was just swapping the channels and I watched it,thanks to channel nickelodeon India.Now me,my family and also my friends are regular viewer of this show.The concept of show is similar to Tom and Jerry but it is having more laughter and of course a lot of surprise.
